There are schools warning parents that they may be closed for two days this week, this is because there are Public Service unions calling on workers for a second strike, the day after the general strike.
In addition to this Thursday’s general strike, there are Public Service unions also calling a strike for the following day. The sservices linked to local authorities, garbage collection, Social Security, Finance, education and health may be affected two days in a row.
The Independent Union of Workers of Public Organizations and Social Support is one of those that called for a strike on December 12th. The same did the Democratic Union of Nurses of Portugal. There are Public Service unions calling for a strike the day after the general strike.

For the 12th, minimum services are agreed for the Health and Justice sectors.
The general strike on December 11th is expected to have a strong impact, with more than two dozen unions from sectors such as Health, Education, Industry, Banking, Social Communication and Transport. The protest arises in response to the labor package, which was the target of criticism from both union structures and former PSD leaders.
A Thursday general strike it will be the first in 12 years. The last one, carried out by the two main trade unions (CGTP and UGT) June 27, 2013, occurred during the economic crisis, when Portugal faced a financial bailout and its consequences.
The Government states that the proposed measures aim to increase labor market flexibility.
