Collision at Régis Bittencourt involved van belonging to the duo Maurício and Mauri; Tragedy left two dead and six injured in the interior of São Paulo
Country singer Amauri Prudêncio de Lima, known artistically as , died this Sunday afternoon (7), aged 55. The artist, who formed the duo Maurício & Mauri for more than three decades and was the brother of and , was the victim of a traffic accident on the Régis Bittencourt highway (BR-116), near Miracatu, in the interior of .
The tragedy occurred around 2:30 pm, at km 373 of the road towards São Paulo. The van transporting the duo and their team collided with the back of a trailer. The accident involved a total of three vehicles: the artists’ van, the truck and a pickup truck.
According to preliminary information obtained by the authorities, the driver of the van had suffered a sudden illness, which caused him to lose control of the steering wheel and subsequently crash into the trailer. The official cause, however, remains under police investigation.
Victims and survivors
At the time of the collision, the van was carrying ten occupants. Singer Mauri was traveling in the passenger seat, next to the driver, and did not survive his injuries. In addition to the countryman, another member of the team also passed away. The singer’s body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Registration for legal procedures.
Six other people suffered injuries, ranging from light to moderate. Among the survivors who were not seriously injured are Maurício, the victim’s brother and stage partner, and Maury Lima, the singer’s son. The driver also survived. Mauri’s body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Registration (SP).
Return of show
The group returned from a performance held on Saturday night (6) in (PR). Due to the seriousness of the incident and the assistance provided by the rescue teams and the Arteris dealership, the right lane and the shoulder had to be closed. The blockage caused congestion that reached 17 kilometers, with the road only being fully reopened in the early evening, around 6:40 pm.

Chitãozinho and Xororó’s press office confirmed the death and asked for respect for the family’s privacy at this time of mourning. Mauri’s son, Maury Lima, used social media to reassure fans about his physical condition and pay tribute to his father.
Mauri leaves his wife, presenter Andrea Fabyanna, and two children, Maury and Beatriz. The duo Maurício & Mauri had been on the road for 35 years and, just two days before the accident, they had released on digital platforms a re-recording of the hit “Paixão ou Loucura”, with the participation of the famous brothers.
