It soothes, creates an atmosphere, evokes deep-seated memories. Not for nothing is it called the smell of home. And yours can literally be anything. Simple, made of several components, more intense, or just flying inconspicuously somewhere in the background. “It depends on how intense a scent you like,” botanist Roman Pavela says in the podcast.

“Scent depends a lot on our personality, on what we like. Don’t be afraid to experiment with them. Essential oils are ideal for this purpose,” Roman Pavela, a botanist, herbalist and scientist from the National Center for Agricultural and Food Research, says in the podcast. And adds where you can drip them.
Bet on quality
But before you even drip essential oil anywhere, it’s a good idea to buy the right one. Or rather the real one. “It should be 100 percent, really the kind that is distilled from plants,” says Roman Pavela.
Be wary of any bottles that are labeled slightly differently. The price can also be your guide. Quality oil will cost at least one hundred crowns. Then it doesn’t matter if you choose a one-of-a-kind, ready-made mixture or if you put together a homemade perfume yourself from several bottles.
Follow your nose
Essential oils are often bought with an aroma lamp in mind. There is nothing easier than putting a few drops in water, lighting a candle and letting yourself be surrounded by the scent of an orange. “It is one of the easiest ways to get aroma into the interior, but certainly not the only way,” emphasizes the expert. “An aroma lamp is great if you want an intense scent. But a drop of oil directly on the radiator that’s on will work just as well,” he adds. He then perfumes the room very quickly and intensively. Of course, you need to choose a place where you can drip – with modern radiators, you can’t just do it without thinking.
Background aroma
But what if you want a more gentle reminder? Like while falling asleep or when you open the closet? “For example, scented pillows are great. They can also have a stuffing made of herbs, but that’s not really important because it smells pretty soon,” explains Roman Pavela. “But whenever you drop an oil or a mixture of oils on the fabric, the scent really just comes off gently and lulls you to sleep.” In addition, you can supplement it at any time as needed.
