The defense of the former presidential advisor will attribute responsibility for trying to carry out a coup d’état at the end of the government of .
as part of core 2 of the coup plot, the last one missing.
He is accused of having drawn up the so-called coup draft, which he has always denied. In the oral argument, which will take up to 1 hour at the beginning of the trial, the former advisor’s lawyers intend to present new elements.
The main ones are documents collected in the case files that would show that Cid, the whistleblower in the case, had started to prepare the draft during the second round of the election, more specifically on October 25th, five days before the vote.
Another document, dated November 28 of that year, would show that Cid presented the document in a meeting with members of the Army’s special forces, the so-called black kids.
“Mauro Cid is the only one who wanted to carry out a coup. It’s his plan. When he gets scared of being discovered, he creates a narrative and tries to hold Filipe responsible”,
The position reflects a change in the defense strategy, which had been denying the existence of a coup. The new line of argument is that there was a draft and an attempt to break the constitutional order, but promoted by Cid.
According to Chiquini, this is due to the discovery of new documents in the process, which was made possible by the use of more powerful computers to analyze the more than 70 terabytes of data from the Federal Police investigation.
Martins is accused of having participated in a meeting at Palácio da Alvorada on December 7th in which the draft was debated. The former advisor denies attending the meeting and says that his entry records were forged.
For Chiquini, Cid is also responsible for the fraud in the records. “He falsified the information to place responsibility on Filipe for the coup he tried to carry out and failed”, says the lawyer.
