Government launches application with rules for CNH

Theoretical course will be made available digitally by the Ministry of Transport, at no cost to the student

The government launched this Tuesday (9), a new application with the new rules for the new National Driving License (). The app is an update to the Digital Traffic Card. The measure, which makes practical classes more flexible by offering the theoretical course 100% online and free of charge, provides for automatic and free renewal of the document for drivers classified as “good drivers”. During an officialization ceremony, the Ministry of Transport launched the Brazilian CNH project. THE and the Minister of Transport, , participated in the event.

“The initiative will increase traffic safety by democratizing access to training,” said the Ministry of Transport. “The process is inspired by practices already adopted in countries such as the United States, Canada, England, Japan and Argentina.” Candidates will be required to complete a minimum of two hours of practical classes – until then, at least 20 hours were required. After that, each person can decide if they need more preparation. Future drivers will also be able to choose between traditional driving schools, instructors accredited by the or a personalized preparation.

Opening of the process

This can be done through the Ministry of Transport website or through the Digital Traffic Card (CDT) application.

Theoretical classes

The Ministry of Transport will make all theoretical content available online for free. Those who prefer can study in person at driving schools or accredited institutions.

Practical classes

The requirement for practical classes will increase from the current 20 class hours to two hours. The candidate can choose between: traditional driving schools, independent instructors accredited by Detrans or personalized preparations. Use of your own car will be permitted for practical classes.

Evidence

Even without mandatory classes, the driver is still required to take theoretical and practical tests to obtain the driver’s license. Other mandatory steps such as biometric collection and medical examination must be done in person at Detran.

Instructors

Independent instructors will be authorized and supervised by state bodies, with nationally standardized criteria. Identification and control will be integrated into the Digital Traffic Card.
