A decision by the São Paulo Court of Justice ordered state deputy Emídio de Souza () to present evidence of accusations published on his social networks that the water supplied by the company was contaminated.
The order from the 9th Civil Court of the District of Osasco, issued last Friday (5), responds to a request from the company and determines that the deputy forward the documents within 15 days.
When contacted by the column, the deputy stated that he was not notified of the decision and that he will speak out in the records.
“Supervising public services and protecting the population’s health is a constitutional obligation of the parliamentary mandate, not an option,” said Emídio, in a note.
Sabesp questions two publications made by Emídio, former mayor of Osasco. In one of them, the video states that the water supplied in Barra Funda, in the west zone of the capital of São Paulo, was contaminated, smelling like sewage and making consumers ill.
The company says it sent a team to the site and carried out continuous monitoring of water quality in the building and neighboring properties for 16 days, at different times.
The conclusion was that the samples collected were within the expected standard, without contamination by bacteria, states the company in the lawsuit.
A further argued that the videos released by the deputy showed the entrance to the building’s water tank, a location that is outside the company’s operating limits.
A second video shared by the deputy points to alleged low water quality in the city of Osasco. The company says in the lawsuit that monitoring indicates that the quality meets the required parameters.
The deputy’s note cites press reports as examples of the “seriousness of the situation” and says that a resident of Barra Funda was hospitalized with symptoms of infection.
