The head of European diplomacy scathingly commented on the government’s criticisms of , but also his report on the new US National Security Strategy and what he mentions about freedoms in the EU, arguing among other things that these should be directed elsewhere, “perhaps to Russia”.
As Kalas said speaking to a committee of the European Parliament and responding to Washington’s reaction to the imposition of a fine by European regulatory authorities against Platform X: “The European Union is the quintessence of freedom. This criticism of freedoms should be directed in a different direction. To Russia perhaps, where freedom of the press is under ban, where opposition is banned, where X or Twitter as we know it is also banned.”
When asked about the American criticism, Kaya Kalas said that “it seems to me that it was done as a provocation” and reiterated that the United States remains the United States’ greatest ally.
