LNF: greatest champions and list of national futsal titles

LNF: maiores campeões e lista de títulos nacionais de futsal image

The National Futsal League (LNF) is the biggest Brazilian futsal club tournament. Created in 1996 by the Brazilian Futsal Confederation (CBFS) under the name “Liga Futsal”, the competition has operated independently since 2015, when the clubs approved the creation of their own league based on the franchise model.

In the early years, the League benefited from the participation of big names in field football, who helped boost the visibility of futsal in the country. During this period, Internacional (1996), Atlético (1997 and 1999) and Vasco (2000) were the first champions.

The turn to the 2000s marked a new phase of the tournament, with the hegemony of Jaraguá and Carlos Barbosa. Between 2001 and 2010, the teams shared eight of the ten titles.

The impressive performance was also reflected on the international scene: Jaraguá was voted the best futsal club in the world in 2008 and 2010, and Carlos Barbosa received the same award in 2009.

In the 2010s, the futsal axis gradually moved to São Paulo. High-profile athletes, such as Falcão, reinforced Santos, who were champions in 2011.

This paved the way for a sequence of São Paulo titles: two from Intelli, one from Sorocaba and one from Corinthians between 2011 and 2016. The dominance was only broken in 2015, when Intelli came second to Carlos Barbosa.

In the 2020s, the hegemony appears a little more divided, but with even more titles from clubs in the South of Brazil.
