President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated this Tuesday that he told the President of the United States, Donald Trump, that, if the United States wants to help in the fight against organized crime in Brazil, it can arrest a businessman who lives in Miami, identified as the country’s biggest debtor, and who Lula classified as ‘one of the great bosses of Brazilian organized crime’.
In a speech during a government event at Palácio do Planalto, Lula said that he made himself available to Trump to collaborate in the fight against organized crime, and classified public security as the most serious problem in Brazil today.
‘I called President Trump and told him that if he wants to confront organized crime, we are available, and I sent him the same day the proposal of what we want to do,’ said Lula.

‘I even told him that one of the big bosses of Brazilian organized crime, who is the biggest debtor in this country, who is a fuel importer, lives in Miami. So, if you want to help, let’s help by arresting this person soon’, added Lula, without naming names.
The fight against organized crime was raised in a recent phone call between Lula and Trump in the wake of an operation launched by Brazilian authorities against the private refinery Refit, in which the IRS pointed out irregular operations with companies incorporated in the US state of Delaware, which allows the creation of companies with anonymity and without local taxation, as long as they do not generate income in North American territory.
According to the IRS, these entities are commonly associated with money laundering or asset shielding.
At the time of the operation, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said that he and Justice and Public Security Minister Ricardo Lewandowski had suggested to Lula that he seek cooperation with US authorities to combat money laundering.
