Coach took over the club from Rio Grande do Sul on April 22nd and led the tricolor for 39 matches, with 14 wins, 12 draws and 13 defeats
Coach Mano Menezes announced this Tuesday (9), through a post on his social networks, his departure from (see ad below). Far from having a brilliant campaign, the team from Rio Grande do Sul ended in ninth place and secured a place in the Copa Sudamericana.
In the publication, he commented on the difficult time the club had experienced since his arrival and said goodbye, using a formal speech in his farewell. “In April this year, Grêmio was going through a very difficult time. I accepted and will accept whenever Grêmio needs it. Our relationship is one of mutual gratitude. After almost eight months, we returned the club to the South American Cup with ninth place”, says part of the text.
The professional’s post was displayed before the club’s official announcement. Mano thanked the board for another opportunity and said he trusts in a more promising 2026. “I know it’s not enough (9th place in Nacional) for the fans’ ambition, but it’s a foundation for a new team and for new achievements. On behalf of myself and my coaching staff, I’m grateful for the way we were treated by almost all of the employees, managers, players and fans”, he added in the post.
The coach was informed of the club’s decision this Tuesday morning by vice-president of football Antonio Dutra Jr. By opting for a change of command in football, the new management is looking for other names. Portuguese coach Luís Castro, who managed Botafogo, is on Grêmio’s radar.
In this last cycle, Mano took over the team on April 22nd, replacing Argentine Gustavo Quinteros. He led the team in 39 matches, won 14, drew 12 games and suffered 13 defeats, with a 46% success rate.
