A federal judge in New York authorized the declassification of files in the case of Ghislaine Maxwell, sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking of minors in the network led by financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Judge Paul Engelmayer, of the Southern District of New York, accepted the request of the United States Department of Justice, considering that they were adopted measures to protect the identity and privacy of victims, reported this Tuesday the television network .

The Department of Justice has not yet indicated when the documents will be made publicbut it is known that the dossier includes Grand jury transcripts, financial records, and victim interview notes collected during the investigation.

Ghislaine Maxwell, former companion and accomplice of the late pedophile and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was convicted in December 2021 of crimes of sex trafficking of minors, transportation of minors for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and multiple conspiracy charges.

The decision comes just days after a Florida judge authorized the declassification of documents linked to the Epstein casefollowing a law approved by Congress to reinforce transparency.

Disclosure of messages left Donald Trump compromised

The issue returned to the center of political debate after Democrats on the Congressional House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released electronic messages attributed to Epsteinin which he alleged frequent contacts between victims of sex trafficking and now President Donald Trump.

The White House rejected these allegations, accusing Democrats of trying to create a false narrative to defame the head of state.

In September, Congress had already announced more than 33,000 pages of documents handed over by the Department of Justicebut much of the content was already public.

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on charges of sexual abuse and child trafficking, but was found dead in his cell weeks later.
