The director of Energy Transition and Sustainability at Petrobras, Angélica Laureano, commented this Tuesday (9) that the definitions of the biomethane will allow the state-owned company to take the next steps in relation to renewable gas. She also highlighted that Petrobras’ strategy in relation to biomethane is the same as that adopted for ethanol.
“Petrobras intends to enter the biomethane market in the same way that we intend to enter ethanol. In a minority partnership with a relevant entity in the market”, stated the director when participating in the PPSA (Pré-Sal Petróleo) technical forum, in Rio de Janeiro.
“We have already made a public call to meet the biomethane mandate and, after evaluations, we have 19 proposals. We needed to be clear about the percentage of the mandate. Now we can define when we will start with this”, he explained.
In October, the Ministry of Mines and Energy proposed reducing the mandatory biomethane target within the Fuel for the Future Program.
The adjustment was from 1% to 0.25%. The mandate foresees that natural gas producers and importers add the renewable gas molecule to the fossil gas sold in Brazil in 2026.
