Russia’s Defense Ministry has proposed a medal for military personnel and civilians who helped recover bodies in combat zones — in a rare official indication that Moscow is having difficulty locating the missing nearly four years after the start of war with Russia.
The draft document, published on Monday (8) in an official database of proposed regulations, suggests awarding the medal for “evacuation of fallen military personnel and other individuals in life-threatening combat conditions.”
The proposal also includes a proposal to award the medal for the implementation of innovative technologies that assist in the evacuation of bodies from the front lines and the identification of the dead.
A , classifies its losses in combat as state secrets.
More than 1 million Russian soldiers have been killed or injured since invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, according to British military intelligence estimates published earlier this year.
The expectation is that Ukraine will present a new one on Tuesday (9), with the aim of putting an end to the war with Russia.
As the war drags on, Ukraine, under pressure from the White House to quickly agree to the peace proposal, is seeking to amend the US-backed document widely seen as favorable to Russia.
