Donald Trump announced an agreement with Xi Jinping to export H200 chips to China. Powerful chips from Nvidia will boost Chinese AI technologies.
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he had reached an agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping to allow the export of technology company Nvidia’s H200 advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the AFP and Reuters agencies.
“I have informed Chinese President Xi Jinping that the United States will allow Nvidia to supply its H200 products to approved customers in China and other countries on terms that allow for continued strong national security,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Chip deal
According to the US president, the Department of Commerce is working on the final details of the agreement, which should also apply to technology companies AMD, Intel and others. “President Xi responded positively! Twenty-five percent of the dollars will be paid by the United States of America,” Trump said. He emphasized that the most advanced Blackwell chips and the upcoming Rubin processors are not part of the agreement.
The H200 chips can process more information faster than their H100 predecessors. According to a report by the American think tank Institute for Progress (IFP), H200 chips are almost six times more powerful than H20 – the most powerful chips that could be exported to China so far.
Boosting AI supercomputers
According to Reuters, the export of these chips will allow China to build a supercomputer with artificial intelligence with similar performance to those in the United States.
