United States President Donald Trump has repeatedly declined the possibility of ruling out sending American troops to Venezuela as part of an effort to overthrow dictator Nicolás Maduro, news website Politico reported on Tuesday (9).
“I don’t want to confirm or rule out. I don’t talk about it,” Trump said when asked about the deployment of ground troops in an interview with the vehicle.
He also stated that he did not want to talk about military strategy.
Amid growing American pressure on Caracas, the president has previously stated that attacks against drug trafficking targets “on land” will begin soon.
The speech was made during a cabinet meeting with government secretaries. Trump was talking about attacks by the US military on boats believed to be transporting drugs in the Caribbean and Pacific when he addressed the issue of the offensive against targets on land.
The US accuses Maduro of leading a cartel, which the dictator denies. The Venezuelan has also called for peace and warned of a possible American invasion.
