Will TikTok’s data center in Ceará transform the app experience?

O TikToka popular Chinese short video app, announced the construction of its first data center in Latin Americawhich will be installed in the Pecém Complex, in Ceará. The investment should generate approximately R$200 billion in the coming years, according to estimates from federal government authorities and the company itself.

The data processing center represents an important milestone for Brazil and will have a direct impact on experience of Brazilian users of the platform. According to Marcelo Tripoliinnovation commentator at CNN Brazilthe proximity of the data center to content consumers will bring noticeable benefits.

“When a company has a data center that is closer to where the content is being consumed, the video consumption experience improves. In other words, the location of that content you are looking for in the feed decreases when it is closer”, he explains.

Sustainability

The initiative should generate approximately 4 thousand direct and indirect jobs. On the other hand, they have high energy consumption — and this is a warning point, as these structures tend to have a major environmental impact if they are not well planned. In this case, according to , the promised energy will be 100% renewable, specifically wind energy.

“We have an unprecedented project in Brazil, in a gigantic infrastructure, which will have a mass of data processed in the cloud, in the Brazilian northeast, with renewable energy, carried out for the first time in Latin America by TikTok. This is very relevant, it shows a little of the importance of the Brazilian market for this Chinese company”, highlighted Tripoli.
