The text, reported by Paulinho da Força (Solidariedade-SP), changes rules for calculating sentences and directly affects convictions imposed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), including that of former president Jair Bolsonaro, .

Sóstenes stated that the change in strategy was discussed with the bench and received approval from Bolsonaro himself, who, according to him, agreed that dosimetry should be voted on even without dealing with amnesty. For the PL leader, the project became the “first step” towards the party’s ultimate objective.

The opposition sees the Dosimetry PL as a way of shortening the prison time of some of those convicted and making room for release later this year. Sóstenes calculates that the text should be approved with more than 290 votes.

The project, however, faces resistance within the government and among parliamentarians who consider the proposal an indirect attempt to review STF decisions.

Even so, Sóstenes made it clear that the amnesty will remain on the bench’s horizon: “It’s a long way from what we would like, but it’s possible for this week. We won’t give up on the amnesty, whatever the year.”
