Palmeiras confirmed, this Wednesday (10), the renewal of coach Abel Ferreira’s contract. The Portuguese had already signaled to president Leila Pereira that he would remain at the club. On the eve of the 2025 Libertadores final, the coach admitted that he would continue in charge of Verdão.

The coach, who has been at the club for six years, has stability and is already adapted to Brazil, factors that also contributed to his stay. According to him, the family is comfortable in the country, which influenced the final decision.

Abel Ferreira’s contract time, salary and fine

The new commitment extends Abel’s stay until December 2027, consolidating the continuity of the project started in 2020. The decision ends months of negotiations that have progressed positively since the middle of the year.

According to a statement issued by Palmeiras, “in a gesture that demonstrates the relationship of trust built by club and coach over the last five years”, the salary and bonuses received by the Portuguese coach must remain the same as what had been determined in the previous contract.

In other words, Abel Ferreira should continue as the highest paid coach in the country, with a salary of R$3 million per month.

Furthermore, the new contract does not have a termination penalty. The previous agreement was valid until December 31, 2025.

Abel’s motivations and identity with Palmeiras

Among the reasons given by Abel for accepting the renewal is the fact that the current cast carries, according to him, “my DNA, my brand”. The coach considers that the club’s values are in line with its own principles.

He emphasized that the decision was made in agreement with the family, highlighting the favorable environment created by the board. “Over these five years here, I have identified with the values and principles of the club. For me, Palmeiras is a lifestyle and a way of living and being”, he stated.

Abel also cited President Leila Pereira’s support in difficult times. “After the defeat to Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil, the project leader reiterated her confidence in the work and that is difficult to find in today’s football,” he said.
