The vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), told journalists, on Tuesday night (9), that it is important for tempers to be “calmed” in the Chamber of Deputies.
The statement was a reaction to the confusion recorded in the plenary after the federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) occupy the Presidency of the Chamber and, later, be forcibly removed by the Legislative Police.
“It is very important that we calm our tempers there, the Legislative Branch is the house of debate, it is the house of dialogue and democracy presupposes civility, that is, we can all have disagreements, different thoughts, but we have to deal with what is most important, which is the public interest, the collective interest, the collective embrace. I am sure that this is a moment that will pass and we will resume the good work”, stated the vice-president.
The declaration took place at the National Theater, where Alckmin, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and ministers met this evening to watch the play “O Céu da Língua”, by actor Gregório Duvivier.
Minutes before Glauber occupied the Board of Directors, the president of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), had informed that it would analyze a request to revoke Glauber’s mandate, accused of attacking a protester inside the Chamber.
The parliamentarian stated that he would remain on the Board until the end of the dispute. “If the President of the Chamber wants to take a different attitude to the one he took with the coup plotters who occupied this Board of Directors and who to date have not received any punishment, that is his responsibility. I will stay here until the limit of my strength”, he declared.
After Glauber’s withdrawal, security guards emptied the plenary and TV Câmara interrupted the broadcast of the session.
The episode occurred on the same day that the president of the Chamber decided to table the bill that reduces penalties for those involved in the coup acts, including former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
When Glauber Braga took over the Board, the deputies were in the first phase of the session that could move towards voting on the proposal.
