Donald Trump wants to intervene in renewed fighting on the Thai-Cambodian border

Donald Trump plans to intervene in the renewed conflict on the border of Thailand and Cambodia. He announced a phone call to the leaders of both countries aimed at stopping the fighting.

US President Donald Trump plans to intervene in the renewed border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, hinting that he will phone the leaders of both countries. Trump announced this on Tuesday evening during his speech in the US state of Pennsylvania. TASR took over the report from the DPA agency.

Speaking to supporters in Mount Pocono, Trump said few others could “stop a war between two very powerful countries, Thailand and Cambodia, with a phone call.”

At the same time, he pointed to past international peace agreements, which, according to his own words, he mediated – including the ongoing ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.

Violence has flared up again about six weeks after Thailand and Cambodia signed a cease-fire. On Tuesday, they reported heavy fighting along the 800-kilometer border, for which hundreds of thousands of people from the border had to leave their homes.
