This is the third time that the American Central Bank has reduced interest rates this year, after easing monetary policy in September and October
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the Federal Reserve (Fed, the North American central bank) cut the Fed Funds rate (as the United States interest rate is known) by 25 basis points, to the range between 3.50% and 3.75% per year, according to a statement released this Wednesday, 10. The movement was widely expected by the financial market. This is the third time that the Fed has cut interest rates this year, after easing monetary policy in September and October.
The decision comes after the biggest shutdown in the history of the US government, which affected the release of important data for decision-making by Fed officials, such as the consumer price index (CPI) and the payroll (North American employment report).
