Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed this Tuesday that the massacre perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, 2023 revealed a “failure” that, he said in a message published on his official channels, must be analyzed through an “exhaustive” investigation at all levels of the State. “There was a failure here, a great failure. An exhaustive examination must examine the political, military and security leadership, everyone. And this is only possible if we do it in a broad national review committee, which is not oriented to one side or the other,” the president said in a video published by his office. The Chief Executive alluded to the precedent of the commission created in the United States after the attacks of September 11, 2001, a “half Republican, half Democratic” committee. This model, he assured, made it possible to raise “any question” and summon “any person” considered relevant to clarifying the facts. “There will not be a confinement of one side against another. Everyone will contribute and everyone will be interrogated, and only then will we get to the truth. This is how it should be done, and this is how it will be done,” Netanyahu said. The Chief of the Israeli General Staff, Eyal Zamir, already requested last Friday an external investigation into the security failures that allowed the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7.
