At stake are suspicions that the previous president of the Nurses Union, Pedro Costa, diverted thousands of euros from the institution to use for his personal advantage.
The PSP is carrying out searches today at the headquarters of the Nurses Union (SE), in Porto, as part of an investigation investigating the alleged embezzlement of money from the institution by the previous president, indicated a judicial source to the Lusa agency.
According to the same source, Pedro Costa is suspected of using “thousands of euros” of SE “for their own benefit”, namely in personal expenses and through bank card withdrawals.
According to a report by RTP, issued in April this year, the former president of the SE will have appropriation of around 40 thousand euros of the union structure, through cash withdrawals using the union’s bank card and the payment of personal expenses.
The news of the searches was initially reported by Jornal de Notícias online, saying that the former union leader is suspected of committing the crime of breach of trustfor allegedly having spent money from the union structure for his own benefit.
Lusa tried to contact Pedro Costa, as well as the current president of the SE, but, so far, it has not been possible.
The investigation is headed by the Porto Regional Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).
