The United States appeals to strengthen defense in Europe. Ambassador Rose emphasizes the importance of Poland and the need to follow its example.
The United States needs a strong Poland, US Ambassador to Poland Thomas Rose said on Tuesday. According to him, a stronger Poland also means a stronger United States. At the same time, he called on European countries to follow Poland’s example and increase defense spending, which he said would protect the role of the US as a partner in NATO. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.
Rose spoke on TVN24 about the new US national security strategy that Washington published last Friday. According to him, the document was often misinterpreted and reactions were accompanied by misinformation.
USA and China
“Our security strategy only reflects reality – we cannot be everywhere and solve every problem for everyone,” the ambassador said. He emphasized that the United States will focus on the biggest geopolitical challenge, which is China.
According to Rose, the United States expects European countries to take more responsibility for their defense. “The United States needs all countries in Europe to follow Poland’s example and increase their commitment to become security guards,” he said, adding that Europe remains central to American interests.
Relations with Israel
The ambassador of Jewish origin also touched on the issue of Polish-Jewish relations after the November contribution of the Israeli institution Yad Vashem, which linked Poland with the introduction of the obligation to wear Jewish symbols during the Second World War, while the regulation was introduced in Poland by the Nazi occupiers. Rose highlighted the sensitivity and emotional connection of Poland and the Jewish world to the topic of the Holocaust and appreciated that Poland did more to commemorate the Holocaust after the war than any other state except Israel.
