São Paulo breaks congestion record with bus strike and rain

At 7pm, the city of São Paulo reached 1,486 km slow

The city of This Tuesday (9), it broke a record for congestion in 2025 due to the bus strike and the rain that has been falling in the capital of São Paulo since the early afternoon. The record was broken at 6:30 pm, when the city recorded 1,374 km, surpassing the 1,335 km of August 8. At 7 pm, the city reached 1,486 km of slowdown. The historical record is from August 2024, when the city recorded 1,510 km of congestion.

The unexpected partial shutdown of 15 bus companies took everyone by surprise and affected the lives of millions of workers on their way home. Buses began to be collected at 4pm, ready to enter peak hours.

Without a transport option to return home, people were forced to take cars via app, in addition to the subway, which contributed to increased congestion in the city.

At the Santana Terminal, in the North Zone of the capital, the Jovem Pan team recorded endless queues to catch the bus, and there is no forecast of when the buses will reopen.
