Couple and baby were in a car that tried to pass through a flooded area, but ended up being swept away by floodwaters
The government of Santa Catarina reported that 1 couple and 1 baby died on Monday (Dec 8, 2025) during the flood that hit the municipality of Palhoça (SC) with the heavy rains that hit the State and Rio Grande do Sul. The 3 were inside a car that was swept away. Images circulating on social media show the moment the vehicle tries to pass through a flooded area and ends up being washed away.
The governor (PL) lamented the deaths and said that the “Security forces are already operating in high-risk locations.” He appealed to people “Avoid flooded areas or areas with signs of collapse and only leave the house in cases of extreme necessity”.
