- The Kremlin declared that Trump’s statements about Ukraine were in line with Russia.
- Trump predicted a Russian victory and suggested that Ukraine cede its territories.
- According to Trump, Russia is in a better negotiating position because of its size.
The Kremlin said on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump’s latest statements regarding Ukraine are in line with Russia’s views. Trump said that Russia would eventually win the war in Ukraine and that Kiev would have to cede some territory. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
In an interview with the Politico portal, the head of the White House said that European leaders are “weak” and called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for elections in the country, writes AFP. “In many ways – when it comes to the issue of NATO membership, the issue of territories, or how Ukraine is losing territory – it is in line with our perception,” he said on Wednesday Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. At the same time called Trump’s recent statements “very important.”
The US president says Russia has a stronger position in negotiations to end the war due to its size. He also emphasized that Ukraine will never become part of NATO. Following the conversation, Zelensky announced that he is ready to hold new elections if their security is ensured.
Moscow’s invasion prompted Kiev to declare martial law and made it impossible under Ukrainian law to hold elections. “We’ll see how the situation develops,” Peskov said of Zelensky’s announcement.
The United States has intensified negotiations with both Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict. In an interview with Politico, Trump said that reaching an agreement is “difficult” and “one of the reasons is the enormous hatred between Putin and Zelensky.”
