Do this with Crassula in December. He will keep in shape until spring

In the colder months, the metabolism of Crassula slows down significantly, which means that the plant uses much less water and energy. This is a typical mechanism of succulents from areas of southern Africa, where winter is dry and much cooler than summer. However, when you notice that your happiness tree is wasting away, take action.

In winter, the crassula languishes mainly because its natural rhythm is disturbed by the conditions in the apartments. During this period, the plant goes dormant and uses much less water, which makes it easy to overwater. Damp, cool soil promotes root rot, which is the greatest threat to this plant. This is manifested by loss of firmness and wrinkling of the leaves.

At the same time, in December and January in Poland, the amount of light drops dramatically, which is a heavy burden for the succulent. In such conditions, it begins to pull out the shoots, lose the firmness of the leaves and gradually shed them. Another problem is hot, dry air from radiators, which disturbs its winter dormancy and additionally dehydrates the leaves. The combination of a dark location, too high temperature and excess water means that the tree of happiness, instead of resting and maintaining energy until spring, begins to weaken and lose its compact form.

The key rule of winter care is to limit watering. The soil should dry completely between waterings. From December onwards, water the crassula plant only once every three or even four weeks. Immediately remove excess water accumulating in the tray, as it is easy for the roots to rot in winter. It is equally important to avoid fertilization. During the rest period, the plant is unable to absorb additional nutrients anyway.

If the crassula is placed in a place with limited access to light, consider gently illuminating it with a neutral white LED lamp. The most important thing, however, is to place it as close to daylight as possible. It is important that it is not too hot in this place. In winter, the ideal temperature for the happiness tree is 14-18 degrees Celsius. If we ensure proper watering and enough light, the plant will maintain firm leaves and a compact shape until March. Then you can gradually start watering it normally.
