The mandate of federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) was not revoked by the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies. Instead, he received a six-month suspension from the House.
During much of the discussion, impeachment seemed inevitable. However, left-wing deputies managed to convince opponents of a milder punishment.
For the impeachment to be confirmed, an absolute majority of the members of the House was necessary, that is, 257 votes. Before getting to the central issue, deputies voted on highlights and amendments to the opinion, including the suggestion that a suspension be voted on instead of revocation. This vote was close, with 226 votes in favor of the lighter punishment and 220 against.

Faced with this score, oppositionists began to fear that Glauber would leave without any punishment. Thus, they began to vote in favor of suspending the deputy’s mandate. This scenario was possible because part of the centrão benches freed parliamentarians to vote as they wished.
The final score was 318 votes in favor of the suspension, 141 against and three abstentions.
The vote was scheduled for Tuesday (9), but was postponed after Glauber Braga occupied the Presidency of the Chamber and, according to orders from President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).
Understand the reason for the lawsuit against Glauber
In 2024, Glauber kicked out influencer Gabriel Costerano, linked to Movimento Brasil Livre (MBL), from the halls of the Chamber. In April of this year, the Ethics Council approved the revocation request made by Novo, and the process went to a vote in the plenary, scheduled for this Wednesday.
Glauber Braga’s allies argue that he reacted to a provocation involving his mother and that the instrument of revocation is disproportionate to the case. His opponents, however, defend zero tolerance towards aggression.
Before the vote, Glauber spoke in the gallery and said that he does not regret and will not apologize for the attitude that led to his loss of office. “For my family I am capable of much more than a kick in the ass,” he said.

He also stated that the impeachment process was actually due to disagreements with former President of the Chamber Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
