Federal deputy Jonas Donizette (-SP), the only member of the party to vote in favor of , says he sees injustice in the sentences applied to those convicted of the coup acts of .
“I don’t think it’s fair for people who participated in that event to have a higher sentence, for example, for those who committed murder. And, secondly, I think that Brazil really needs pacification,” Donizette told the column.
The parliamentarian said that his position on the issue had already been communicated to the party, in which he holds the position of special secretary.
Former mayor of Campinas, he highlighted that he took a stand together with the party in the attempts to postpone the vote, as well as in the amendment that sought to maintain the current parameter of serving a sentence for the progression of the closed regime – which was rejected.
The deputy stated that the approved law does not represent a “passing of the cloth” from parliamentarians to those convicted and that he did not vote with the situation of the former president (PL) in mind.
“He is in prison and will remain in prison. The sentence was reduced, from 27 years to 20 years, a period during which he will practically be out of public life. Bolsonaro’s own lawyers, after analyzing the text, said that he will spend at least another 5 years in prison,” said Donizette.
