Who was the only PL deputy who voted in favor of Zambelli’s impeachment?

Federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL) maintained her position after the Chamber of Deputies rejected the impeachment request against her in a vote in the plenary in the early hours of this Thursday (11). Of the 408 parliamentarians who formed the quorum, 227 were in favor of losing the mandate, 170 against and 10 abstained. Only one PL deputy voted in favor of the request: Ícaro de Valmir (PL-SE).

A first-term deputy, Ícaro was the youngest federal deputy elected in the country, in 2022. At the time, he was 21 years old. He is currently the youngest parliamentarian in the Chamber.

He is the son of Valmir de Francisquinho, also a member of the PL, mayor of Itabaiana, in Sergipe. Ícaro’s brother, Talysson de Valmir, is mayor of Areia Branca, in the interior of Sergipe.

The deputy is the target of a request for impeachment from the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) of Sergipe. Last year, the TRE decided to revoke the parliamentarian’s mandate after the PL failed to meet the gender quota during the 2022 Elections.

He appealed, but the TRE upheld the decision in March this year. After the impeachment was maintained, the parliamentarian appealed to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and is awaiting judgment.

In May, she was sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to ten years’ imprisonment in an initial closed regime and a fine of two thousand minimum wages for the invasion of the National Justice Council (CNJ) systems.
