Centrão helps the left to avoid Glauber’s impeachment

In a strategic maneuver in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, the left, with the help of Centrão, avoided the revocation of the deputy’s mandate (Psol-RJ) and transformed it into a . The vote was held in the early hours of Thursday (Dec 11) with 318 votes in favor and 141 against.

The deputy (PSD-RJ), from Centrão, was a key player in the approval, even though it was not from Glauber’s allied base. He signaled to his party that he was against the impeachment and spoke with the psolist’s allies about the possibility of an alternative highlight that would still punish the deputy. According to Pedro Paulo, the feeling was that “the plenary wanted to punish” Glauber Braga.

Initially, it was planned to vote on the revocation of the deputy’s mandate. Psol, however, highlighted its preference for, before that, the possibility of suspending the mandate for 6 months to be analyzed. The party negotiated with Centrão parties.

With the session going into the early hours of the morning, Pedro Paulo remained in the House until the time of the last flight to Rio de Janeiro – deputies usually return to their states on weekends –, when he left the plenary.

With the amendment ready, the PT leader, (RJ), called Pedro Paulo, asking him to return as speaker for the proposal, which was essential for approval. Even with other names on the list of speakers, the allies withdrew their registrations to advance the speech.

Pedro Paulo works in the political center field and has worked several times with the president of the Chamber, (Republicans-PB). Furthermore, he is from the same party as (PSD-BA), rapporteur of the case against Glauber Braga, which helped attract more votes in favor of the Psol deputy.

The deputy is also one of the deputy leaders of the president’s government base (PT). He had alreadyon Wednesday (Dec 10, 2025), who was against the loss of the mandate.

“I don’t see any level of gravity to suppress the mandate. I see errors. I see cases of different severity. It’s one thing if you have a congressman who is responding to a legal process, leaves the country and isn’t responding here. This is the case with the other 2 parliamentarians. The issue with congressman Glauber Braga is behavior, it’s decorum within the House”he declared.

During the plenary vote, Hugo Motta was seen making calls several times, possibly to reach the quorum for the impeachment.

CRACK OF THE CENTER AND RIGHT

In Glauber’s case, there were 177 votes from deputies from center, center-right and right-wing parties. Of these, 125 came from congressmen who are part of Centrão: MDB, PP, Republicans and União Brasil.

The split between the 2 political camps intensified after Senator (PL-RJ) announced that he would be a candidate for president in the 2026 elections, as the choice of the former president (PL).

The senator’s name was chosen in October and confirmed on November 25, when the senator was with the former president at the PF headquarters.
