One Enel employeean electricity concessionaire in Greater São Paulo, was arrested in the act for charging R$ 2,500 to restore the energy supply of commercial establishments in Vila Mariana, south zone of São Paulo, on the afternoon of last Thursday (11).
According to the São Paulo Civil Police Police Reportthe victim was identified as Rodrigo Reed Rocha and the suspect as Alex Rodrigues Nogueira.
Alex would have reconnected the power to the Rancho da Empada restaurant in just 15 secondsafter the owner, Rodrigo, agrees to pay the desired amount. The establishment was no electricity since Wednesday (10).
Text and audio messages that CNN Brazil had access show the dynamics of the coup. In the messages, the employee charges one of the traders with the amount requested to reactivate the electricity.
He claims that I would only do the job after the guy made the transfer banking. The technician even said that if he didn’t give the money, I would take the truck and leave.
A video released by the deputy mayor of Vila Mariana, Rafael Minato, shows the moment the arrest takes place. The politician pretended to be a merchant on Avenida Sena Madureira and questioned whether his establishment would be reconnected.
In the video, the technician says that he asked for the money because he would have to travel to another street, which would not be the one on his original service. “My ‘job’ is here, I’ll pay to go there”he says.

When contacted, Enel stated that any payment requirement for repairs to the electricity network is outside the company’s rules of conduct and that, in case of doubts, customers can contact the company’s service channels.
In a note, the SSP (Public Security Secretariat) stated that the employee will be investigated for passive corruption. The arrest in the act was ratified, and the case remains under investigation by the 16th DP.
Audios, videos and other evidence presented were attached to the investigation. As this is a crime whose maximum penalty is more than four years in prison, no bail was set at the police station.
