Aleksandar Vučić, president of Serbia, went to Brussels this week to speak to European officials about Serbia’s eventual accession to the European Union.
This was the focus but other topics were discussed, as normally happens in a bilateral meeting.
It was one of those “extra” topics that became a topic. Even before the meeting even started.
The president of Serbia had arrived at the Berlaymont building in Brussels when he was received by Ursula von der Leyen. They were going to take a “family photo”.
Vučić was walking alongside the president of the European Commission when his words were captured by a nearby microphone, apparently without the knowledge of the president of Serbia.
Aleksandar Vučić whispered, next to von der Leyen: “I received a message from Moscow”.
And he said nothing more because the president of the European Commission interrupted immediately the phrase: “Let’s… let’s wait”.
Also on this short walk was the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.

It should be noted that the president of Serbia is one of the few leaders in Europe who continues to have conversations with the Kremlin.
