The 77-year-old British king released a video message: “I know from my own experience that a cancer diagnosis can be very difficult. But I also know that early detection is the key that can transform treatment pathways”
King Charles III, of England, revealed that, due to early diagnosis and “effective intervention”, he will be able, from the new year onwards, to reduce cancer treatment. The “good news” was delivered in a video message recorded and broadcast by Channel 4 for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, in which Carlos said: “This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testament to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer treatment.”
“Today I can share with you the good news that, thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and compliance with ‘doctors’ orders’, my own cancer treatment schedule can be reduced in the new year,” said the king in his speech.
Carlos, currently 77 years old, in February 2024. The type of cancer has not yet been identified and treatment and monitoring will continue, but the king stated: “Early diagnosis simply saves lives”.
According to Buckingham Palace, the king’s recovery has reached a very positive phase and he “responded exceptionally well to treatment”, so much so that doctors will now move his treatment “to a precautionary phase”, says . The regularity of treatment will be significantly reduced – but the patient is not yet in remission or “cured”.
“I know, from my own experience, that a cancer diagnosis can be very difficult. But I also know that early detection is the key that can transform treatment pathways, giving invaluable time to medical teams”, said Carlos.
Carlos’ message was recorded at Clarence House two weeks ago, and broadcast on Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer program on Friday night, as part of a fundraising project carried out with Cancer Research UK. The campaign encourages more people to get tested for cancer and take advantage of national screening programs.
