State deputy Marina Helou (Rede-SP) criticized the changes to the party’s statute adopted by the party’s national executive, which is made up of allies of former minister Heloísa Helena.
The parliamentarian, who belongs to the group linked to the minister (Environment), stated that the suggested changes move the party away from the values defined in its creation. The proposals will be deliberated at a congress this Saturday (13).
“For me, who has been at it since its beginning, the moment is very sad and frustrating. Dealing with fraud and institutional violence in an environment that was supposed to be trustworthy is very serious. It is the sneakiest and oldest way of doing politics,” said Helou.
When contacted, the Network’s national executive stated that the statute review was approved in 2023 and reinforced by the party congress in May of this year. He said that the statutory proposal has been available on the party’s website since June, open for suggestions from all members. The meetings to discuss the changes were also open to members and recorded.
Network members opposed to the changes claim that they concentrate political and economic power in the party’s leadership.
One of the targets of criticism is the forecast reduction in the quorum necessary for the intervention and dissolution of provisional committees and links, as local directories are called in the Network. The executive states that the old statute already provided for a simple majority to dissolve the links, and the changes only standardized the rules.
The party board said that the essence of the statute was preserved, with 90% of the text transcribed from the original statute, from 10 years ago, and that “contradictions and redundancies” were removed from the text to optimize the party’s functioning.
