It was a clarification that has never been made before: August Wöginger, club chairman of the ÖVP, appeared in front of the media on Friday and announced that resignation was out of the question for him: “I will remain club chairman,” he said – regardless of the outcome of the upcoming criminal trial at the Linz regional court. When explicitly asked whether this also applies in the event of a conviction in the first instance, Wöginger replied in the affirmative, referring to the appeal process and the principle of the presumption of innocence.
