Šutaj Eštok on the need for faster detection of crimes: It is not my habit…

The Ministry of the Interior (MV) of the Slovak Republic will neither take revenge nor make political orders. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Voice-SD). He understands that the public is impatient and Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) feels the pressure. However, according to him, justice is not done by shouting or through references in the media. This follows from Šutaj Eštok’s statement after the Prime Minister’s statements on Saturday about the need for faster detection of crimes from 2020 to 2023.

  • The Minister of the Interior rejects revenge and political orders in the department.
  • The investigation must be professional and lawful, not under duress.
  • The Prime Minister feels pressure from the public to detect crimes more quickly.
  • Coalition quarrels weaken the government and help the opposition, warns the minister.
  • The government’s priority is solutions for the people, not political skirmishes.

“It is not my habit to hide behind phrases. I understand that the public is impatient and the Prime Minister feels the pressure. But justice is not done with shouts or references in the media. The investigation should be done according to the law, not according to the assignment. The Ministry of Justice will neither take revenge nor make political orders. My role is to ensure that the police and investigators work professionally, legally and without interference. And that’s exactly how we do it. In contrast to the years 2020 to 2023, when the Department of the Interior became an instrument of struggle,” noted Šutaj Eštok on the social network.

He also pointed out that if some sensitive criminal matters are tied up somewhere, it is not in the Department of the Interior. “Even the Prime Minister surely knows that criminal proceedings have their own rules, their phases and clearly divided competences between the individual law enforcement authorities,” he added.

At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that coalition quarrels help the opposition. “The coalition will not survive if we publicly attack each other. This weakens the government and strengthens the opposition. We must pull together and deliver results. Because people don’t judge us by references, but by what we actually solved for them,” he concluded. He emphasized that people are not interested in political skirmishes, but are troubled by food prices, security, transport, and recurring tragedies on the railways. “These are the things people ask me every day and this should be the government’s agenda if we want to work for the people,” he added.

The Prime Minister announced on Saturday in the STVR discussion program Sobotné dialogy that wants to intensify the pressure on the Minister of the Interior. He pointed out that he has a huge number of constituents disappointed that the Home Office and investigators are not acting more quickly to uncover crimes committed between 2020 and 2023. According to him, results must come. He pointed out that there is a huge amount of evidence on the table that needs to be processed and presented in a legal manner.
