The country’s economy could never be a problem for Lula’s re-election, says Haddad

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said on Friday night, the 12th, that, upon taking office, he assessed, together with other ministers, that the country’s economy could never be a problem for the re-election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

While receiving a tribute from the Prerrogativas group, in São Paulo, Haddad recalled a statement made by President Lula himself earlier, during the inauguration ceremony of the SBT News television channel, that the recent forecast from economists did not work out and that what worked was Brazil.

“He said, looking at the governor of São Paulo: ‘You saw, Tarcísio (de Freitas), that all the predictions made by the federal government’s economists didn’t work out.’

“And the fact that we are reaching the end of the third year of this term and looking to the future with the ability to see President Lula face another election in the name of democracy, development, social justice with very favorable perspectives is something that today makes me a very happy person”, he said.

The minister also recalled the invitation made by Lula for him to occupy the Treasury and that the president makes people “fall in love” with projects.

In an interview with Estadão/Broadcast in November of this year, Haddad said he was satisfied with his performance at the head of the department and that he had already delivered to President Lula everything that was ordered from him. He left his position open in May of next year.
