Both the Europeans and Kiev are asking the United States to provide “security guarantees” ahead of any negotiations regarding territory in Moscow-occupied eastern Ukraine. This was stated on Friday by the office of French President Emmanuel Macron, reports TASR according to the AFP agency.

“We need full transparency about the security guarantees that the Europeans and the Americans can provide to the Ukrainians before any resolution of disputed territorial issues,” the Elysee Palace said.
Meeting of leaders in Berlin
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin on Monday. They will discuss the economy and proposals for ending the war in Ukraine.
On Monday evening, they will be joined by several European heads of state and government, including the leaders of the EU and NATO.

Since November, when the US proposal outlining a potential framework for ending the war was published, there have been several rounds of discussions between Washington, Kiev and European partners, in which various amendments and counter-proposals have been submitted.
