Blackout, motions, lots of food and lots of dolls. Google has once again shown us what we’ve been searching for all year, and there are some surprises.
The list of most popular searches for 2025 in Portugal mixes politics, diseases, recipes with very specific subjects — turbosexuality, flotillas, reborn babies and love strawberries are some examples that stand out.
Among the most asked questions, one that no one expected stood out: “What is turbosexual?”. Well, it’s… a word that doesn’t exist.
The term, which dominated the top of searches “What is…?” in the country, it aroused national curiosity after the son of actor Diogo Infante used it in his Instagram biography. The young man later explained that the reference was just a joke about cars, but the concept took on a life of its own. The “turbosexual” is described as someone with a sexual appetite so high that it transcends genders and appearances, sometimes being associated with the use of technology for pleasure.
“What is a flotilla?” is the second question “What is…?” most placed on Google. This one, not so innocent.
The term became central in two humanitarian operations that marked the year. In June, young Greta Thunberg and other activists participated in a maritime mission to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza, defying the Israeli blockade. In August, a new flotilla left with 40 vessels and 500 volunteers, including Portuguese figures such as . The topic was on the lips of the Portuguese for months.

Digital curiosity didn’t stop there.
“What is a reborn baby?” has resurfaced in strength, driven by viral videos, particularly Brazilian ones, where creators stage routines with hyper-realistic dolls that imitate real babies. In Portugal, the practice is still little known, but it is beginning to gather followers, especially among collectors and artists.

Health also marked the 2025 research, with emphasis on “aspiration pneumonia” e “pubalgia”. The first gained relevance after the actor’s illness, a lung infection caused by the aspiration of food particles or liquids into the lungs. Politics also led many Portuguese people to Google. The doubts surrounding the “motion of censure” e “motion of confidence” were driven by the events of March, when a parliamentary crisis led to the . The motion of confidence presented by the Democratic Alliance (AD) was rejected by Parliament, leading to early elections being called, in which the coalition ended up victorious. During election periods, another issue recurred, as is customary in election years.: “How do I know where to vote?”.
Another curious thing in the most searched “Hows” was “How does OnlyFans work?” one of the questions most asked by the Portuguese, especially after a , made by PSD deputy Gonçalo Capitão, who mentioned the platform. Created in 2016, it allows content creators, mostly linked to the sexual area, to share paid material via subscription.
And, as expected, viral recipes were also present. “How to make Dubai chocolate?” e “How to make a love strawberry?” have become authentic culinary phenomena on social media. The first, inspired by an Arabic sweet with pistachios and Kadaif dough, became popular among Portuguese influencers. The second, coming from Brazil, is a strawberry covered in brigadeiro and red caramel — a tropical version of caramelized apples considered, this year, due to its bombastic fame, the . But the Portuguese were also very interested in making a good chicken stroganoff, basmati rice and homemade mayonnaise.
