Two soldiers and a civilian interpreter, all of them Americans, died this Saturday in an attack that occurred in the Syrian province of Palmyra, in the center of the country, as confirmed by the United States Department of Defense. Three other people have been injured in the same incident.
“Today in Palmyra, Syria, two US Army soldiers and an American civilian interpreter were killed and three were wounded,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote in a message posted on the social network X (formerly known as Twitter).
The attack occurred while the military was participating in support of a counterterrorism operation against Islamic State and according to Parnell “this attack is being actively investigated.” The identity of the victims has not yet been revealed pending notification of their next of kin.
