North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has confirmed the death of nine soldiers of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) who were serving with the Russian Armed Forces in the war with Ukraine, within the framework of cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow, which have registered a notable rapprochement in recent years.
“Except for the heartbreaking loss of nine lives, all the officers and soldiers of the regiment have returned to the homeland, and I express my gratitude for this,” Kim said during his speech – reported by the official KCNA agency – at the welcome ceremony of the North Korean Army Engineer Unit Abroad.
