Andalusia and the Valencian Community, on red alert due to torrential rains | The weather today in Spain and in the world

Andalusia and the Valencian Community have activated red warning levels (extraordinary danger) due to the torrential rains expected for today, which in some places may even exceed 250 liters per square meter in 12 hours.

According to data collected by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the most adverse phenomena will be located in the Almanzora Valley and Los Vélez, in the province of Almería, and on the coast of the province of Valencia, although the warnings have also been activated, with orange level (significant danger), in the communities of Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia and Ceuta.

In Almería, the rains, which have already begun to fall very intensely since the early hours of the morning, can accumulate up to 120 liters per square meter in 12 hours. In Valencia, on the coast of the province, they can be up to 180 liters per square meter, although the totals for the episode planned for today and the early hours of tomorrow may exceed 250 liters.

On its social networks, Aemet has warned of possible floods and sudden flooding of riverbeds that may occur as a result of torrential rains, and has stressed the importance of following Civil Protection recommendations. In addition to the rain warnings, warnings have been activated for strong storms in Andalusia, Murcia and the Valencian Community, and for strong waves on the Andalusian coast and in Ceuta.

In the Canary Islands the storm has subsided, but the seven islands of the archipelago remain on alert due to strong waves and winds, all at a ‘yellow’ level (low danger) except La Palma, where the alert level remains ‘orange’ due to the strong wind and waves that hit the island.
