Jara, after voting: “When one opposes everything, it is Chile that does not advance”
After voting at the Poeta Federico García Lorca high school in the Conchalí commune, candidate Jeannette Jara gave a press conference. “Governing Chile is a big team task and, as I have said, it is not enough to just criticize the other (…) Opposing everything is useless and what we have had in this time is an opposition, led by Republicans, that has been obstructionist with the Government, that has not given it salt or water. What I hope is that we, in our Government, have an opposition that is responsible and that participates in what it likes, and that it does not, can disagree freely, but not obstruct because when one opposes everything, it is Chile that does not advance,” he said.
Asked about the legacy of President Gabriel Boric, Jara did not want to take a position: “That is a question that should be asked to the Government.” Instead, the candidate pointed out that what she could comment on is what she did as Minister of Labor.
Jara, at the press conference, was accompanied by local authorities, such as Tomás Vodanovic, mayor of the municipality of Maipú. He confirmed that, if he wins, he has already outlined his Cabinet. “In our case we have great teams, with people who have experience and projection and future. Therefore, we have formed a preliminary list of the prime ministers who are going to take office.” He also added that “when you start a Government you must have work already done, planned, with concrete measures; you cannot start on March 11 improvising, you cannot start having just learned about the issues. I say this because it is super easy to criticize others, but it is another thing to govern and to govern requires equipment, experience and craft, and work capacity.”
The former minister also referred to the controversy over the massive messages sent to users of an application from the company Lipigas in favor of Kast and against migrants in Chile, which according to the company were supposedly due to unauthorized access to its platform: “When in an election on the same day messages are sent based on a candidate it is obviously a problem, but regarding the facts in particular we must properly investigate what happened. The company has a version, I believe that if it is effective it is good for it to initiate legal action relevant.”
