Elections 2026: Lula says he did not give up on Pacheco in MG – 11/12/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The president (PT) said in an interview this Thursday (11) that he had not given up the name of (-MG) to seek the government of Minas Gerais in 2026, an important platform for the PT candidate for president.

“I said to Pacheco: ‘Man, I’m asking you to help me win the elections for the Presidency of the Republic. You will be governor of the second most important state in Brazil. You can make a difference in this electoral process. He was reluctant, reluctant, but he thinks I gave up, I didn’t give up”, he said.

The senator has already indicated to Lula that he has no intention of entering the dispute, in addition to having been one of those considered to take over Luís Roberto Barroso’s seat in the STF (Supreme Federal Court). The president chose to nominate Jorge Messias for the position.

In his speech, Lula made new criticisms of the current governor of Minas, Romeu Zema (Novo) and refuted the governor’s comment that he called the PT administration a “time bomb”.

“When he looks and says that my government is a time bomb, he must be looking at his government. Because he got this government with a debt of a hundred and a few billion [de reais] and left with 200 something billion. He spent eight years without paying debts. And we were the ones who made the agreement to resolve the debt problem in Minas,” he said, in reference to Propag (Program for Full Payment of State Debts)

“These people who make a living off the internet, who keep making things up… this won’t work,” he further stated. “If Seu Zema is a candidate for president next year, it’s time for truth. We’re going to see what he did for Minas and what I did.”
