According to the company STN, the three employees who recorded on Avenida Paulista are not electricians or have any other operational role

A video in which outsourced employees from dance on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, went viral on social media and generated criticism. The capital of São Paulo and the metropolitan region have been in the midst of a blackout since Wednesday (10) . The recording, made on Friday (12), was part of a marketing campaign.

In a statement, the concessionaire said that it “activated the STN so that the appropriate measures could be adopted”. The company responded that the recording was aimed at an institutional Christmas video, “whose purpose was exclusively to convey the joy, engagement and pride of belonging to our organization”. He also stated that the three men in the images are not electricians or have any other operational role.

Furthermore, he stressed that he had “no intention of associating himself with external facts”. “Due to logistical factors, schedule, team travel and time constraints, the recording in the State of São Paulo took place on this date, following the schedule”, he added.

According to Enel, around 99% of customers affected by the blackout had their power restored. On Friday night, the Court had ordered the resumption of service within 12 hours.

The concessionaire showed a worsening in the duration and frequency of power outages in the last 12 months, with the worst result since at least 2022. The situation occurs in a context of criticism of the quality of the service, especially with long blackouts also recorded in October 2024 and November 2023.

Enel Distribuidora São Paulo even requested an early extension of the contract with the federal government for 30 years, but the request was by Justice in October.

The technical area of the Federal Audit Court (TCU) even recommended that the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) evaluate the possibility of federal intervention in the company, as was done in the Rede Energia group from 2012 to 2014.
