Ground attacks “do not necessarily have to be in Venezuela”, explains Donald Trump. The US target is the “horrible people who bring drugs” into the country.
The President of the USA, Donald Trumpstated that the country will begin carrying out ground attacks related to Venezuela, although shortly afterwards he detailed that these ground military operations aim to “horrible people who is bringing drugs” — and which do not necessarily have to occur on Venezuelan territory.
“And now we begin the ground attacks. overland is much easier. And this will start to happen”, said Trump, when asked about the situation with Venezuela at a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House.
Shortly afterwards, Donald Trump clarified that ground attacks do not “have to be necessarily in Venezuela; our targets are people who bring drugs into our country.”
This is not the first time that Donald Trump has threatened to order ground attacks against Venezuela. In October, the North American president had already stated that “the sea is very well controlled. I don’t want to say anything morebut we are now ”.
Trump also stated that his Government reduced drug trafficking “to levels never seen before”. Specifically, according to the North American president, the United States “reduced the amount of drugs arriving via water by 96%”, adding that “I wouldn’t want to be the other 4%”, in reference to the attacks carried out in the Caribbean against vessels allegedly transporting drugs, for which he has been accused of committing “extrajudicial executions”.
According to , amid laughter and in a joking tone, he also asked those present in the Oval Office: “Do you want to go fishing in that area? Does anyone want to go fishing in that area? I don’t think so.” The counter vessels will have already done more than 80 dead.
On the other hand, the President of the United States refused to reveal what his next measures will be regarding Venezuelan oil, after the seizure of oil off the coast of the Latin American country, just two days ago.
Trump also directed criticism of Colombiaas he had already done when ensuring that its President, Gustavo Petro, would be “next” in the fight against drug trafficking, although I sought to distinguish this reality from the Venezuelan situation. “Colombia has at least three cocaine factories. It’s a different country. We are not satisfied with this. But we are stopping it”, he stated.
“Now we have a solid border. A year and a half ago, millions of people crossed it en masse. Now no one comes through our border. And we have a solid country. We have a country that respects it. Let’s keep it that way. And we are not going to allow people to kill 300,000 people a year with drugs,” declared Trump, comparing the situation to a “war”.
