Against the dosimetry bill and again under the motto of “Congress, enemy of the people”, social movements and left-wing cadres are planning demonstrations for this Sunday (14), once again betting on the presence of artists.
The acts are planned in more than 40 cities and were scheduled over the last week after approving, in the early hours of Wednesday (10), the project that would arrest the former president (PL) and other prisoners for participating in the acts of January 8, 2023.
The scenario is similar to that of the acts of September 21, which occurred after the Chamber had approved, at the drop of a hat, the Blindagem PEC, which determined the opening of investigations against parliamentarians only upon approval by the Legislature.
At the time, the protests were hastily organized, just like those now, and had the singer as one of their main supporters — he performed and other artists in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. The artist confirmed that he will be at the venue this Sunday, at 2pm, alongside Gil and Paulinho da Viola.
The acts against the Blindagem PEC brought together around 42.4 thousand people in São Paulo and 41.8 thousand people in Rio de Janeiro, according to a survey by the Cebrap Political Debate Monitor and the NGO More in Common, appearances on September 7th in the same places.
Avenida Paulista, Leoni, Emicida and Rashid. Once again, the postcard of the capital of São Paulo will serve as the stage for this Sunday’s protest, also scheduled to start at 2 pm. This time, shows by Chico César, Samba de Maria and Mistura Popular are planned.
The organizers hope to be able to stop the advance of the Dosimetry PL in . In September, three days after the demonstrations against the Blindagem PEC, the House that had been approved by the Chamber.
The ministers of the Lula (PT) government, then, had been instructed not to attend the events so as not to aggravate the friction between the Executive and the Legislative.
With the relationship even more strained with the , this time the Palácio do Planalto did not give the same guidance to its ministers. Still, none of them have confirmed, for now, their presence at the events.
“I have respect for the presidents of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, and the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre. I always defend the National Congress as an expression of democracy, but the Houses opted for an extremely unpopular agenda, which generates institutional instability, an agenda of political confrontation”, said Edinho Silva, national president of the PT, to Sheet.
He has called for the acts on social media. “I will always seek to be an agent of dialogue and political pacification, but I will never stop defending the strengthening of democracy and popular interests. I will never stop defending the PT’s historic positions,” he stated.
The acts are organized by the Povo Sem Medo and Brasil Popular fronts, linked to the PSOL and PT and which bring together movements such as the MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement), the MTST (Homeless Workers Movement) and the CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores).
“This ‘Congress enemy of the people’ agenda caught on,” says the national coordinator of Frente Povo Sem Medo, Ana Paula Perles. “This practice of voting, of taking away rights in the dead of night, is becoming a practice that shames Brazilian society,” he added.
