The minister of the (Federal Supreme Court) ordered this Thursday (11) that a medical examination be carried out within 15 days to assess the need for surgical intervention on the former president ().
Bolsonaro’s lawyers asked last Tuesday (9) for authorization for him to leave the Superintendence of the Federal Police of Brasília, where he is being held, for.
According to the defense, the former president needs surgery for hiccups and hernia, which would require immediate hospitalization lasting 5 to 7 days.
When determining the expertise, Moraes stated that Bolsonaro underwent a medico-legal examination upon his arrest, on November 22, and that, at the time, “there was no record of any medical condition that would indicate the need for immediate surgical intervention.”
“On the same date, I ordered the prisoner to be held at the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police, in the Federal District, guaranteeing ‘the availability of full-time medical care to the defendant Jair Messias Bolsonaro, on duty’. Since that moment, there has been no news of an emergency medical situation occurring with Jair Messias Bolsonaro”, added the minister.
He also said that the medical exams presented by the defense are not current, “the most recent one was carried out three months ago, without the doctors indicating the need for immediate surgical intervention at the time.”
In the document in which he requested the surgery, the lawyers once again stated that the former president has a delicate health condition and is experiencing a state of mental confusion that resulted in him being detected by the Federal Police.
The defense also reiterated at the time the request for the granting of humanitarian house arrest.
“As informed by the doctor responsible for treating the Petitioner, the former President needs to undergo surgery both to treat the hiccups, a consequence of the surgeries already recorded in the present case, and due to the worsening of the diagnosis of unilateral inguinal hernia, which also indicates the need for surgical intervention”, they stated.
“In fact, all the new medical documents that have recently been added to the file reveal a significant worsening of the petitioner’s health condition, which previously required attention”, they conclude.
